Abstract: Lower Ordovician weathered crust palaeokarst was formed in Tazhong area due to the middle Caledonian orogeny in Tarim Basin. The palaeokarst was developed in middle Caledonian, and it features in less intensity of corrosion, poor reservoir quality and wide distribution. Vertically, it is distributed by zones, while horizontally in layers. The controlling factors of palaeokarstification in middle Caledonian mainly include palaeogeomorphology, palaeoclimate, sedimentary facies, stratigraphic sequence, and fossil fracture. The prospect areas have been predicted by above mentioned controlling factors.
